Other Drugs
From stimulants such as Adderall, cocaine and meth to hallucinogens like LSD, DMT and ecstasy to prescription sedatives such as Xanax, Valium and Ambien, people are going to experiment with altering their state of mind. While there are natural ways to do this, such as meditation, the reality is that drugs do this quickly. Whether they want to function at a higher level for a test, or socialize without anxiety, or just check out for a bit, too many adolescents and young adults feel the benefit outweighs the risk. On many college campuses, there is a culture promoting such experimentation and substance use to excess. So while prevention is important and we will continue to work hard at this, it is equally important for those who are using, for the first time or regularly, to know the effects of the drug being used, and know the progression of use to abuse to dependence.
